Abdominal Muscle Repair in Seattle, WA
What Is Abdominal Muscle Repair?
Abdominal muscle repair, also known as rectus diastasis repair or abdominoplasty muscle tightening, is a surgical procedure designed to restore the integrity of the abdominal wall by bringing separated muscles back together.
During pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or aging, the rectus abdominis muscles (the “six-pack” muscles) can stretch and separate, leading to a condition called diastasis recti. This separation can cause a weakened core, lower-back discomfort, and a bulging or uneven midsection.
At La Belle Vie Cosmetic, we specialize in abdominal muscle repair to create a flatter, stronger, and more contoured abdomen — restoring both form and function.
Benefits of Abdominal Muscle Repair
- Restores firmness and tightness to the midsection
- Corrects muscle separation (diastasis recti) for improved core strength
- Flattens abdominal contour and reduces bulging
- Enhances posture and stability
- May relieve back pain and improve abdominal tone
- Provides a smooth, natural transition from the abdomen to the waistline
Who Is a Candidate for Abdominal Muscle Repair?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Have noticeable abdominal muscle separation or weakness
- Experience a persistent “pooch” or bulge despite exercise
- Have completed pregnancies and are not planning future ones
- Are at or near a stable, healthy weight
- Are in good general health and have realistic expectations
This procedure is often performed as part of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) but can also be done as a focused muscle repair for patients without excess skin.
Since starting my private practice in 1987, I have proudly served over 10,000 patients. Surgical safety and achieving my patients’ desired goals are the hallmarks of my career.

The Procedure
Abdominal muscle repair is typically performed under general anesthesia. A discreet incision is made low across the abdomen, usually along the bikini line, allowing the surgeon to access the separated rectus muscles beneath the skin and fat layer.
The muscles are then brought back to the midline using strong internal sutures to restore the abdominal wall’s natural tension and support. If combined with a tummy tuck, excess skin and fat are removed, and the incision is carefully closed for a smooth, refined contour.
The procedure generally takes two to three hours, depending on the extent of repair and whether additional contouring is performed.
Recovery and Aftercare
After surgery, a supportive compression garment is worn to minimize swelling and support the repaired muscles as they heal.
Mild discomfort, tightness, and swelling are normal for the first few days and are well controlled with medication.
Most patients return to light daily activities within 1–2 weeks, avoiding strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for about six weeks.
Full healing and final contouring results continue to improve over several months as the tissues settle and the abdomen becomes firmer and flatter.
Results
The results of abdominal muscle repair are long-lasting, providing a stronger core, improved posture, and a smoother abdominal silhouette.
Patients often report not only aesthetic improvement but also functional benefits — such as reduced back pain and enhanced core stability.
With proper care, maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps preserve your results for many years.
